Embroidered lace fan - France - late 1800s

Fine French fan dating back to the late 1800s, with a refined central painting in rococò style, which refers to the works of great painters such as Jean Fragonard and Antoine Watteau.  As in the paintings of these great artists, the scene is characterized by frivolous scenes - such as the two lovers sitting on a bench - the drapery, the clothes and white hairstyles of the characters are typical of the style of those years. The use of white and light dominates the scene, both in the painting and in the colour of silk and lace. According to the codes that ruled the use of fans, the iconography recalling the paintings by Fragona identifies a beautiful woman. The fan has engraved bone slats, and has a glass case with a wood engraved frame. It rests on a velvet base.
