Fulvio Bianconi

Fulvio Bianconi was born in Padua in 1915, and immediately showed an exceptional predisposition to drawing. Attending the Carmini School of Art, he follows the apprenticeship in Michele Pinto's workshop. Later, he worked as a portrait painter and decorator in northern Italy and in Istria: in the 1930s he will begin to practice graphics for various Milanese publishing companies, thanks also to the meeting with Dino Villani. After the war, he dedicated himself to the creation of some perfume bottles for Gi. You. Emme, in collaboration with Venini.

Since the 50s he will work mainly as a graphic designer in collaboration with the most important Milanese companies (to remember in particular Garzanti) and throughout Italy (Fiat, Pirelli and Marzotto on all). Also in the '50s, as a result of contrasts with Paolo Venini, he will interrupt his collaboration with the company, but will continue to provide his designs to various Murano shops, and will begin to work personally with the Venetian masters in the creation of glass. In those years he created some series that wouls be repeatedly produced by Venini: Pezzati, Fazzoletti and A fasce orizzontali.

However, this was not frowned upon by the Murano furnaces, who wanted to maintain a traditional production line of mirrors, chandeliers and glasses. Bianconi, a staunch supporter of the artist's creative freedom, was the first to create human figures (the Venetian carnival masks) in glass. A complete artist, he used an exceptional amount of different materials for his work. He died in Milan on May 14, 1996.
