Gerolamo Induno is the younger brother of the more famous painter Domenico, and he attended the Brera Academy in Milan. He realizes usually light and vibrant live paintings, especially portraits and historic paintings. In 1855 he exhibited, together with his brother, at the Paris Universal Exposition, where he has a good success. This painting represents a portrait of a young lady, typical of this artist, and it is a perfect example of his technique of using light brushstrokes.

Ho fatto pulire e controllare i miei gioielli, quando li ho rivisti ho fatto un salto indietro nel tempo di molti anni, oggi rivedo finalmente questi monili di nuovo brillanti e luminosi come quando mia madre li acquistò da giovane per indossarli e viverli in ogni buona occasione.
