Glass coot made by Alfredo Barbini - V.A.M.S.A. Murano 1930

Murano glass sculpture representing a coot, realized by Alfredo Barbini for V.A.M.S.A (Vetreria Artistica Muranense Società Anonima), with wich the master collaborated from 1936 to 1946. It's a work from the "fumati" series, which has the streaks obtained by incorporating, during glass cooking, the smoke caused by firewood. This particular technique gives to the coot a very special plumage. Very intense is the color obtained by inserting inside the colorless glass of green glass to define the head and the bird's beak. There are many artists who have been abducted over the years by the magic of the animal world, but the works of Alfredo Barbini are always recognizable as well as for the technique of processing, for the particular sensibility, which makes them unique in the Murano landscape.
