Excellent panoramic view of Piazzetta San Marco in Venice, a refined testament to the great tradition of Venetian mosaic art of the early 20th century. In the foreground rises the imposing column with obelisk, serving as the compositional focal point around which the entire urban space unfolds with balance and depth. To the left, the unmistakable profile of the Palazzo Ducale - the Doge’s Palace - can be recognized, its Gothic architecture rendered through a skilful interplay of light and dark tesserae, while in the background the island of San Giorgio Maggiore stands out, delicately defined against the sky. The work is executed with minute Murano glass tesserae, set with extraordinary precision according to the complex and now rare mosaic technique, which provides the scene with a vibrant luminosity and a surface rich in shimmering reflections. The mosaic can be attributed to the historic Pauly & C. – C.V.M. manufactory, one of the most prestigious Murano firms, and can be dated to the 1920s, a period of great splendour for Venetian decorative arts. The work is in perfect condition.
